My more "nuanced" review is on Goodreads. I'm putting my blunt review here cause I doubt anyone will read it. This was weird. It was strange. I does not make Swedes look good AT ALL. It ain't looking to good for the Europeans lmao. Also, I just think this book conflates autism with being flat out BONKERS. It's aiming for complexity, but you made a creepy, serial killer vibe white man who freaks everyone out (because let's face it, he a freak) and expect to just "autism" it away as the explanation. It just didn't sit well with me the whole book. The interracial dynamics in this book made me VERY uncomfortable and uncomfortable is a good way to force people to think and examine why they feel that way, but.....and this is part my opinion.... it was just like BLEEEEH 🤮🤮🤮 and the fact that Brittany's dumb ass got with this man was like BLEEEEEH🤮🤮🤮 and she didn't even TRY to ask questions like a dummy BLEEEEH🤮🤮🤮🤮. Also killing Muna, your underdeveloped immigrant character was LAME. Not insightful but LAME. CORNY. And SHALLOW. Just trauma porn. I'm making myself mad typing this lololol UGH.

I loved the three characters the book focused on but was hoping for a stronger link between them and Jonny. With their connection being a major plot point, it seemed that the relationship was brushed off. Even between the three woman, no friendship developed which I hoped for as they are all Afro/Black transplants in Sweden

I loved this book! I had a hard time putting it down!
Wow! What a freaking WOW!
I usually say that I have no interest in being characterized as strong and even worse a Strong Black Woman. There is just so much expectation that comes with being a Black woman, the weight that we have to carry is immeasurable.
I loved that Muna, Brittany and Kemi were given the freedom to just exist and to LIVE freely to make mistakes. Its so rare that black characters are so well written that I become engrossed in them but the author understood the assignment and delivered! I was able to relate to them, empathize with them and celebrate them.
What I'm trying to say that this was pure magic!

Wow! The author included suicide, domestic violence, autism, and adultery in this one book. The lives of the women in the book are struggles that a lot of women of color face and do not receive the assistance they need to cope with these issues. I would recommend reading if any of these topics won’t traumatized you. I really enjoyed this book.

This was very well written although sad story. The type of sad that makes you angry for the characters and the life they were given. Made me want to hug them and be their support.

This book took me by surprise. I kept waiting to see how the characters were connected and examine that main thread. We learned about the inner workings of all 3 women and Brittany was probably my least favorite. I understood conceptually what she saw but didn't understand how she thought she'd be protected. I think I pitied her character the most. Kemi's tug spilled over into economic status with race felt woven through its fabric. I was probably the most pleased with her plot line and character development.
I appreciated Jonni's complexity and how someone like him might move if unchecked.
Luna's character and the journey she went through is probably responsible for my overall feeling about this piece. All in all, something feels unresolved and it goes deeper than just the way the novel ended. I think that's what makes it all the more realistic and thought provoking.
