Little bit of a slow start, lots of unlikeable characters, overall great writing, effing trauma everywhere

This book was definitely a surprise read for me, one that I didn’t know I needed. I just wanted better for each of them. Kemi, Muna, and Brittany each deserved the slice of Black joy that they envisioned for themselves no matter how different their stories were.

Can confirm!
(Also: rich characters and the novel touches on topics not often deftly tackled in fiction)

This is one of those 'can't put it down' type of books. I sat down one Sunday to read a chapter and ended up finishing the entire book. The way Lola reveals the complexities of Kemi, Brittany, and Muna and how their lives are intertwined made me feel invested in each one of their stories and hanging on to each word until the very end.

Both bold and nuanced commentary of being black in Sweden and what that says about Swedish culture.
