Well…that was a story to be read. Definitely unexpected ending. It is a lot to reflect on. Like I’m gonna have to take a minute after reading that to regroup before moving on to the next book. I did enjoy the read overall but wow…I didn’t expect the ending.

Audiobook. I enjoyed this read, each character has their own lives and personalities which I found interesting. It was narrated by multiple people which I absolutely adore in an audio. I went through almost every emotion, including wtf moments. I would like to read this in physical as I’m interested in what the next book holds. Audiobook was just shy of 12hrs30 but I read in less than 10hrs

Another book club read! I really enjoyed this one - giving it an 8.8/10. It was a very insightful and interesting read.
This novel follows the stories of three BIPOC women who are residing in Sweden with an emphasis on the unique struggles they face in light of the various reasons that brought them to Sweden, as well as their different levels of privilege. The stories are interwoven and occasionally overlap as all three women were, in some way, brought to the country by the same man. This book is one of the most well-written books I’ve ever read - the balance of being descriptive enough to paint a picture while not droning on, as well as making it intellectually stimulating and simple to understand at the same time. This book sheds light on so many systemic issues regarding race, autism, sexism, wealth, suicide, and general privilege in an honest, yet non-attacking approach. I think it’s an excellent conversation starter and I found it very interesting because I always viewed Sweden as a much more progressive place and this book served as a reminder of the very real barriers that exist everywhere for minorities. I did not love the ending of this book due to lack of closure with some of the stories, and it is an incredibly sad and thought-provoking book.
I would absolutely recommend to anyone!

Graphic: Ableism, Chronic illness, Death, Racism, Suicide, Violence, War
Minor: Pregnancy, Sexual harassment
A bleak view of life in Sweden for 3 Black women, with elements that seemed far-fetched. But it contains a lazy and dangerous representation of an undiagnosed autistic person - the author's final comments on this at the back of the book actually makes me feel more angry about this. The 3 stories barely linked as advertised; it didn't feel necessary to have the 3 stories as they didn't enhance each other. I started off really enjoying reading it but generally finished very disappointed.
Three stars might not be doing this book justice but upon completing it I thought to myself “I need to reread this in a year”. I enjoyed the three story lines but I found myself rooting for some more than others. I really enjoyed Kemi and I would like to see a story dedicated solely to her to get a deeper look at why she is the way she is. AS well as Brittany And Muna. I was a a little slow for me but when it sped up IT SPED up but with the speed it’s some things I would have liked to have had more explained
I’ll be rereading.
