EDIT: removing my review after that wild ride of a statement. you can't "condemn violence" if you can't stand with the victims of a literal genocide, rebecca. words and silence can be violent too.

Really enjoyed the world building and the pace of the book. Mostly plot, with spice. Can’t wait for the next one

Do agree with this TikTok and some of their critique on the writing style of the author. Well, it wasn’t enough to completely take me out of the story and DNF the book. It was a little bit jarring.

THE ENDING?!?!!

Yeah Xaden got endless amounts of explaining to do, but this amazing!! Also Dain is the dumbest character to ever exist.

Holy crap...this book...was just freakin amazing. I hadn't really heard about it until a week or so before release and I was like...eh I'll wait for the paperback next year. Then all of a sudden I see tons of people gushing about it and I'm like hmm...wonder if it's on Libby?

A coworker ended up buying is, devouring it, and saying it was incredible...and that I could borrow it 😎

Within a few chapters I was already fully invested and in love with Violet and Xaden...and since all the places I normally buy books were already sold out I actually did a Waterstones order and have it coming from the UK 🤣 I'm so used to annotating and the story is so good I KNOW I'll be rereading and annotating my own copy.

If you've ever been the underdog, had a parent constantly disappointed and telling you not to embarrass them...you'll relate to Violet pretty much immediately. Oh and if you're into guys who'll burn the world to save you...yeah this book has that too. 🥰

The disability rep in this book is fantastic. Having Ehlers-danlos, it was so nice to be able to actually imagine myself as the mc. The times when I'd normally think, 'oy, my shoulder wouldn't still be in place' during fight scenes and then having Violet experience that was really well done. Her disability was never forgotten about and if it held her back her friends would figure out an accommodation without ever making Violet feel guilty. All while making sure to include the inner battle as someone with a chronic illness to accept the accommodations and feel empowered by them. Really, really well done. This book was just fantastic. The dragons, characters, magic, sarcasm, banter and wholeheartedness of Violet and Xadan was just so good. I especially appreciated how Violet called people out for messed up things they said/did. She wasn't letting any emotional abuse or manipulation get past her, where in other highly popular NA books toxic characters are what make the book and is read with nonchalance. To wrap it up without any spoilers, this is a book that I hugged after finishing it. Which says everything about how good it is.

I have so many words, but the most important are READ THIS BOOK! You want adventure? Check. Fantasy? Check. Fantastic action sequences? Check. Badass MCs? Check. Great plot with enemies-to-lovers romance? Check. Dragons with cool powers? Check. Check. Check.
This book is everything and more and one of my favorite reads of the year (and I read A LOT of books). I’ve already seen this masterpiece of a book compared to Divergent, Hunger Games, and Harry Potter. But truthfully; those series don’t give this book the justice it deserves. It is truly all it’s own and I hope it becomes a worldwide phenomenon.
