As a disabled reader, reading a character like Violet with chronic pain, I really enjoyed the way it was written. The author has the same disorder as Violet, and as such, doesn't baby her but doesn't make it one of those things she just has to get over to succeed. She has to have accommodations, and while she is initially embarrassed by them, they make her able to do the same things as others, and I thought that was so important.
Once the dragons appeared on the page, the book became a lot more interesting, but it was still, at times, hard to get through. It felt way too long, and some of it was stretched out in a frustrating way. I expected the twist of the
The romance was also predictable, but I liked that it wasn't a traditional love triangle,
My greatest criticism lie in the writing, which at times felt very juvenile for the characters. The language felt too modern, and that is frustrating for a book like this.
I am interested in the sequel though, and I am curious where the story is going to go, although I have read enough fantasy to know...
