I've been a fan of Fern Brady's stand-up for a while now...I love her intelligent and blunt insights. Here she tells her own story of isolation and confusion as an undiagnosed autistic woman. She's incredibly honest about the less social acceptable parts of living with autism (breaking furniture, physical assault, unhealthy relationships). Still, at so many points in the book you feel just intense empathy and worry for her. I love that she doesn't try to tie up the end with a pretty bow, but leaves it still unresolved, a work in progress.  I especially recommend the audio book as she reads it herself.

Really interesting memoir about life as an autistic woman, I'm a big fan of Fern Brady's comedy and knew about her diagnosis, but was surprised to see this was the main focus of the book. Really well written and very funny, tempted to listen to the audiobook too since I spent most of this book trying to read it in her voice.

A very funny account of tales ranging from lighthearted to upsetting. The structure was a little messy but I enjoyed the mixture of anecdote and information.

Equal parts funny and heart wrenching, Fern Brady tells the story of her life leading up to her diagnosis with autism in her mid thirties. While she worries about being defined by her new diagnosis, she shows how damaging suppressing and ignoring her condition has been throughout her life. She pulls no punches, sketching out the characters in her life with an almost cruel factualness. You can easily imagine that this autobiography was painful for many of her friends and family to read. Her life in comedy is given short thrift, with later chapters becoming a little repetitive of the facts and events that seem to give her comfort, but it's a powerful piece of persuasion that women need diagnoses too to help them navigate a world not designed for them. The audio book is a little stilted at times, but a pleasure to listen to
