This book was hilarious. I highly recommend for people who work in offices... it's all hyperbolized (hysterically) but the base material is spot on. I did find it interesting how the characters were split women = competent or raving mad, men = bad liars

Once I got the hang of the various characters and threads of e-mail conversations this was an hilarious and quick read. Ever thankful to work in IT and not advertising.

If I was asked to pick a favourite book of all time, then E by Matt Beaumont would definitely be on the shortlist. I laughed out loud at every page of this story about a typical ad agency told entirely through its emails and chats. There was a point I bought several copies, just to distribute them among book lovers. I was lucky enough to get my well-worn copy autographed by the author who happens to be a Creative Director in UK of the same agency I was working at in Dubai. Whether you're in advertising or not, please read, laugh and enjoy!

A fun, engaging and hilarious look at what goes on behind the scenes in an advertising agency. It's easy to read, and will make you laugh and feel for the characters. Awesome book is awesome! Oh, and even if it was written just when the new millennium started, it's still good and what's in here still rings true!

this is a hilarious quick read told through emails of a british office circa 2000. i've read it about 5 times, and it just keeps getting funnier.

This book is rubbish! Average writing, mediocre plot line and it is hard to differentiate between the stereotypical and slightly dull one dimensional characters.

Told exclusively in emails and set in the early days of 2000, this is the story of three weeks or so at a London ad agency. REALLY good at differentiating characters, and yes, we've all got some of these characters in our inboxes at work. However, this is also dated in the sense that the humor is sometimes horribly sexist, and the female characters seems to be a bit unbelievable.

Oh, well, I will probably look up the sequel to see if it's as much fun. Very much schadenfreude -- thank God no one compiles MPOW's emails....(actually, they are legally able to be read, which is horrifying)

It took me forever to read since May to July, but it was funny, with the sheer lunacy of office humor in London right around January of 2000.
funny lighthearted fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

About 1/3 in, the book really picked up. Totally hilarious, vivid characters and shit got scandalous! At points it was far too 2000s (e.g. using the 'd' slur for lesbians, sexism, etc.) but ignoring those signs of the times, I really enjoyed it!
Pinki was 100% my fave character, a hippie with a heart of gold.
Watching Simon's decent was by far the best part of the book, every time I thought he couldn't stoop any lower, he proved me wrong!

okay so let's discuss. I like this book. I mean it isn't going to win a nobel prize or anything but I was thoroughly entertained walking by the hudson river reading it. My feet hurt at the end but I don't blame that on the book.

Okay so here is the thing about this book, there is nothing truly outstanding about it. I mean is there ever in a british novel. No not really. Not to say I don't love them, as Karen knows I commonly buy a book solely because it says the author is british and the queen mother has yet to let me down.

Right so the book. The format is hilarious, and I commend matt for sticking it through even when it is obvious most things are happening face to face. Some of his fixes are great, basically office gossips which we all know so well. The boss's issue with how to use email is also a nice touch. Well as we know in british writers the book is much less about what it is about and more about people being people. yay for england.

also go arsenal.
