I'm loving the characters and the way Bardugo weaves them through the Grishaverse. I thoroughly enjoyed Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom, and this one feels like an extension of the story. I'm also a Nikolai and Zoya fan now for sure!

Initially this book was slow to get into, I’m not sure why, perhaps because it has been a while since I’ve read about these characters. However, after the half-way point, the plot picked up and I finished it very quickly.
The chapters written from Nina’s point of view didn’t entice me as much as the others, I found that I would put the book down whenever I got to one of her chapters and then struggle to pick it back up again because her storyline wasn’t as interesting and seemed out of place. If her chapters weren’t involved then I may have enjoyed the book more/given a higher rating because they seemed to be a bit out of place as there was no overlap with the other chapters. However this could change with the sequel.
It was interesting to have character’s from Nikolai’s and Zoya’s pov because they were robbed of this from the shadow and bone trilogy. In addition to that, learning about Zoya’s past was interesting as well as learning of the consequences of the ending of the shadow and bone trilogy on these characters and their lives.
The redeeming aspect to this book was definitely the ending, hence I’m very much looking forward to the sequel :)
