I taught this novel to 8th graders (mandated and difficult to do with this age group!) But I grew a deep love for the story, the characters, and what WWI soldiers went through. I had one boy who really fell in love with this book too. Now, I'm helping my own 8th grader understand it, and it's been good for us. I also recommend the Netflix movie by the same title (after you read the book).
A fantastic book about the horrors of the First World War. A gripping portrait of how boys turn into men while enduring hell made real, while others back home have no idea about the true nature of modern war. A must read for anyone slightly interested in the horrors of the trenches
