on the trend of unhinged women whirlwind lit novels, fast fast read. I think it was well executed in terms of taking an absolutely wild bizarre idea and helping the reader feel grounded in its characters context, understanding the trauma and coping mechanisms within the absurdity of it all. good pace revealing the backstory. I didn’t know where we would go and I don’t feel certain the author did either post the true “3C days” as we get to the unraveling and ending, final third was a bit flat for me. but I loved her describing inhabiting the characters and struggling with their and her identity/consciousness at once.
I’m pleasantly surprised. This book was recommended and I thought it was going to be… bad. There was just something about the description I couldn’t get behind. However, this is a fantastic read. It’s a unique take on how trauma and PTSD can completely warp a person’s mind. I think it wrapped up nicely and I actually like the fact that we never get confirmation on whether Rita was real or not. I personally think she wasn’t real. But anyway, I think it’s worth a read if you’re into anything psychological.

It really picks up in the second half when the wheels of the plot finally start spinning. I found this to be a really quirky/interesting take on the kind of social and emotional avoidance that can happen as a result of trauma. really heartwarming at times, and really bleak and sad and hard at times.
