I rated this book a 6.5 out of 10. The idea of the VirtNet is super
cool and was executed really well. There were parts of "The Path"
that were weird. I felt a drive to keep reading, and I will be reading
book 2, The Rule of Thoughts.

I think the target audience for this series would be a
young teen. There isn't anything particularly
frightening or unnerving. Honestly, it gave me Spy
Kids 3 vibes from the very beginning. If you're
unfamiliar with that, like the middle school version
of The Matrix. That's the idea.

I had new ideas and predictions and
questions after each chapter. There is this
way of writing that gives the reader just a tad
bit more information needed but hidden into
the story. This is right up my alley because I
love puzzles and sifting through the words.

What the actual.. what was the part with animals and demons all about? I don't know what's happening. I couldn't actually visualize what was going on because it was so chaotic. Then we never actually understand how they chose what animals to eat. Also, why is Skale the leader? How is Skale alive? There are no portals on the path. Doesn't he need to eat and shower and stuff? So much isn't adding up there...

Oh my gosh... the way Brandon and Sara die... I know it's in the game, but they actually feel it until they disconnect. Brandon felt himself being torn apart. It's sickening.

They did Sara dirty. I can't help but feel like they wanted Michael alone at the end of the path, so they had to kill Sara. To burn alive... every death is so traumatic. Even Tanya's suicide, and we didn't even know her. Maybe her's hit different because she died in real life.

The VNS is super sus. Especially Agent Webber. I feel like they are the "bad guys" here as well as Kaine. It gives me TVA of Loki vibes. I don't know if it's just the three letter abbreviations, the tangents they seek to destroy, or led by this lady who is CLEARLY not trustworthy (Webber/Ravonna).

I hope The Rule of Thoughts | Book 2 explains some of my questions and sheds a bit oflight. I'm invested.
