I was so excited to be back in Monty and Percy's world, but this book fell flat for me. My biggest issue: it was way too long, and for no reason. Nearly everything that happens before Adrian meets Monty (100 pages in) is pointless, as are some of their pitstops throughout the novel (whatever happened to Basira Khan? Saad?), and virtually nothing is resolved in the end. Now, I understand that this is partly because Adrian needed to learn that there is not always an answer for everything and he cannot always be in control, but it is so frustrating for the reader. The banter was great and yes, I loved hanging out with Monty and Percy, but those were the only good things about this book. Even Felicity was overshadowed and didn't really get a conclusion to her story. Oh, and what about Louisa? She was fun and had so much potential, but there was literally no reason for her to be there. She was so poorly developed that the entire book would have worked without her.

"perhaps she was haunted. perhaps we all are, our souls crumbling houses where unquiet spirits walk the halls."

Lee's writing style is still very easy to read and sometimes touching, so the book can be read pretty quickly. as a whole it was a nice read but I have the same feeling as at the end or the second book of the trilogy where I feel the first one would have been enough and the focus still is mainly on Monty and Percy despite changing main characters. and we didn't really learn anything about Adrian apart from his anxiety - if the whole message is that it doesn't define him that's a bit clumsy in my opinion. however it gives closure to the saga as a whole so if you've read the first two you should read this one as well to say goodbye to everyone!

This was disappointing.

Look I think this book can be enjoyed by a lot of people and probably will be based on the mental illness rep alone but I found it very exhausting. Like the narrative voice exhausted me so deeply, because of how real it was for someone with GAD and OCD. I think if this was all this was I would rate it 3 stars but still recommend.

The pacing in this book feels like a bunch of novellas strung together and not a coherent plot, even though there is kind of a plot? There? It just drags and drags though, but in a choppy, weird way. It just feels like we're on some checklist of characters we have to check in on. Maybe it's because the reasons for the plot happening are contrived, convoluted, and make no sense but I couldn't get into it.

I think I would have enjoyed Adrian in a different setting, a different genre, but I'm not sure what. 2 stars because I got through it but didn't enjoy my experience at all. I'm just having a hard time with him as a narrator, it's just...not fun. Maybe it's not supposed to be? However as someone who's had her own journey with anxiety, I felt like a lot of it was behind me, thing I didn't feel the need to hear anymore and didn't benefit me. I think it'd benefit someone else who needs to know someone like them exists, but I'm older and more confident, so as I think this is the strongest point in the book it's also more exhausting, and I wasn't tuned in for an exhausting read.
