A solid Scandinavian mystery. Not as dark as many in the genre. It has certain elements of a cozy mystery. Full of atmosphere, twists and turns.

Un peu déçue par le rythme du premier roman de la reine du polar suédois. Ses personnages gentils un peu gnan-gnan aussi.

I started listening to the audio version of this book. I got a bit more than halfway through it and had to stop. The narrator is atrocious. Awful. Appallingly bad. He's one of those male narrators who can't figure out a good way to perform a female voice that isn't insulting. He uses a Cockney accent for a working class Swede. He reads with meaningless intonations. I found myself hating the characters and the plot. So I picked up the paper version to see if the book was that bad. It wasn't. It's slow paced. The plot is sort of obvious, but it was an enjoyable read. Not spectacular, but respectable. The main character doesn't have much depth. There are some interesting twists. The author clearly doesn't really know how to plot a mystery and keep suspense without revealing the secrets to the audience. The book is ok, the audio master should be destroyed.

Aaarrrgghhh. There was so much potential and so many good moments that I really wanted to love it. Rarely have I been able to finish a book that frustrated me so much. Half way through the book I figured out the big secret...but it was so damn obvious I was sure I was wrong. Then I was right and even more annoyed. There are glaring continuity errors and moments where I knew what the author was writing could not possible be happening. The murderer simply wouldn't have acted as this one did.
But I enjoyed the main characters and wanted so much to like it. Honestly I wonder if the real thing I enjoyed was listening (I do audiobooks) to the correct pronunciation of the Swedish names. It's a stretch to give it 3 stars in my opinion.

She walks into a shop out of the rain. She leaves and is walking in the snow. Then she is walking in the rain again. I'm not going back to remember it correctly but there were many mistakes like this. I really should have stopped reading when the character spent so much time worrying about her weight and appearance.

I really enjoyed this, I found it really gripping. It kept me guessing right to the end about the murderer's identity.

Really liked this one even though I read it after the second book.

Not the most exciting book. No real edge of your seat and the characters behaved somewhat predictably.
