Much like ABOSAS, this prequel book is exceptionally well written. Suzanne Collins consistently writes complex, emotional characters whose interactions shape the book. Reading Haymitch’s transformation into the man we see in The Hunger Games is haunting and compelling.
This book is a quick read, but a worthwhile one.

Ugh, this book is SO sad. It did a great job of connecting A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes to the Hunger Games trilogy. It really helped me to understand why Haymitch is the way he is by the time he meets Katniss.

I fear I need the movie version of this desperately! I want to give him a kiss on the forehead

DID NOT FINISH: 67%

Doesn’t add anything to the series that I don’t feel like the original doesn’t do, feels like a rehash of Katniss’s first hunger games but done worse, reads like a mediocre fanfiction. I just got bored of it which has never happened with any of the other books, I might come back to finish it one day but doesn’t feel worth it.
