Well I’m traumatised. 10 out of 10 book but no wonder the man drank.
Gonna go crawl into a hole and weep.

I'm not entirely certain why this book needed to be written. It's now been 17 years (and three books plus a first prequel, and 5 films) since the 2008 publication of the original "The Hunger Games." This SECOND prequel feels like a desperate attempt to keep the cash cow mooing. It reads like fanfic, and has far too many cameos: Beetee, Snow, Effie, plus young versions of Katniss's and other families, etc. etc.
But for me, the worst sin of this book is that essentially it's just a retread of original "Hunger Games" plot, with Haymitch and Maysilee standing in for Katniss and Peetah. The novel drags- the Games don't even begin until over halfway through the book.
I'd REALLY like to see Collins put this 5-book "trilogy" to rest, and write something new.

was this a necessary addition to the series? no. was it still good/entertaining? yes.
haymitch is one of my favorite characters (along with johanna) so it was nice to get a fuller picture of his hunger games and his life/experience pre and post games. I really enjoyed his fellow district 12 allies and I really enjoyed ampert as well (ampert's death made me mad tho because one it was gruesome imagining it and two because I felt it was too quick/sudden). I enjoyed seeing more of beetee, mags, and wiress as well.
this was much much better than a ballad of songbirds and snakes but not as good as the main books in the series for me.
