I had a hard time starting this book, and I don't really know why. I didn't instantly love Beau or care much about his beginnings, but learning about Arabella, and the details of her curse were super intriguing and what finally hooked me!
It was cool to read a gender swap of Beauty and the Beast, it was similar enough to the original tale but unique enough to stand on its own. The romance was very PG and fun to watch, the cast of characters were diverse but not large enough that I felt overwhelmed.

This was an interesting gender-bent Beauty and the Beast retelling. The entire premise of this story is what makes a girl “beastly.” It focused on accepting who you are and loving yourself instead of waiting for someone else to do that for you.
It took a few chapters for me to figure out the plot and where it was going. The prologue was utterly confusing until about halfway through the book when you finally understand who was in it and what they were doing. The dominoes do eventually fall into place for understanding all the characters and their purpose in the story though.
Overall, I thought it was a good take on the classic fairytale.

I understood the direction this book was going for, but on my end it didn’t quite meet it. It felt scattered and off kilter, and I found myself waiting for it to be over.
It was a fine read for folks who like Beauty and the Beast retellings, but for people who may be wanting more spark than just the standard story, this may not be the read for you.
