Jenny Colgan books are warm hugs, cozy pajamas, and sipping hot cocoa while sitting before a roaring fire on a snowy day. I’ve been reading a lot of escapist fiction lately, which seems to be what my brain needs right now! This isn’t exactly a review, just my endorsement of the book as a soothing balm when you want to dive into some heartwarming fiction that actually has a strong plot and likable characters, without having to do a lot of independent deep thinking or reach into any dark and twisty places. This book was simply such a nice, uplifting break.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. Nina, a reserved bibliophile, leaves the UK and moves to Scotland and opens a small, quirky bookshop out of the back of a bus where she connects the perfect book with the right reader.

I did, however, have to detract a few stars for a couple of reasons: the use of strong language, some (thankfully vague) sex scenes, and the fact that the main character fell in love with a soon-to-be-divorced-but-still-married man. If you read this, you’ll find that Nina’s sense of morals was very contradictory.

I love Nina. I AM Nina. In an alternate universe I would live Nina's life. I want to move to Scotland.

A charming confection of a book.

This was the cutest and incredibly moving book.

I absolutely loved it from beginning to end and it touched me in so many ways.

I'm adding the second one to my cart immediately!

I’d go with 3 1/2 stars. Quick, entertaining read. My love of books connected me to it. Now I’d like to go visit Scotland.

Lovely book. I’m a big reader and just fell into this story. I truly hope another will come in the series. I loved Nina and her passion for books> excellent!!

This was a cute book, and I really enjoyed the first half or even three quarters of it. To see Nina grow, find her voice, and be successful was empowering. Plus the descriptions with which the author wrote we're beautiful. But for me, the end of the book read too much like a romance and it lost the books and the beauty of the beginning. With a different ending, it easily could have been 4 stars. Overall, I did enjoy it though.

A book about books set in Scotland? Yes, please! Strong hints of Pride and Prejudice.
