while this was a great sequel to the first book, the whole thing felt boring to me. the plot was so focused on the war that the love story between Roman and Iris was just in the background. the whole thing was so slow and i struggled to stay interested while reading. i was hoping that we would get the reverse of what happened in the first book, with Roman falling in love with “Elizabeth” through their letters and then finding out later that it was really Iris, but sadly this didn’t happen. in terms of the plot overall, this book did a great job in concluding the duology and wrapping everything up nicely. nothing felt unfinished or rushed, and there were no major plot holes i noticed. however, i really do wish it included more about Roman and Iris romantically

This book swept me off my feet. I’ve had it for months and hadn’t picked up the first one but I loved the first book. I took a few days to start this one but once I started I couldnt stop. The writing is so incredible. It’s visual and emotional and it elicits every emotional response that the characters feel. It’s so immersive and to write a series that has world building depth in only two books is amazing. The romance storyline holds a place in my heart for their undying love. It reflects Katniss and Peeta which is what I see as the epitome of love stories. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. The best part about this book is the pace and the emotion is created. I would be cheering at some points and crying at others. By far one of the best books I’ve read in a while.

This felt quite rushed and I found the ending unwhelming. There were a lot of threads left unanswered and characters introduced that seemed to be important and then forgotten as the book finished. Everything seemed to be tied up too neatly and yet at the same time the end felt too ambiguous. A fun read but lacking compared to how I thought it would go leading from the first book.
