I wasn't expecting this manga to like... change me but I think it did?? One of the major themes is the idea that nobody will understand you unless you tell them who you are. It seems obvious but like... it's so hard to come out that I often avoid it altogether and just hope that people figure it out? And then they end up saying something insensitive and I'm disappointed even though I never expressed how they should treat me so how were they supposed to know? So I'm actually feeling way more confident in coming out because of that. And the main character Ryo is so cool because he decides to unapologetically be himself every time, even when it seems like the hardest thing in the world. He doesn't accept intolerance and will keep trying to express his true self until someone gives in and treats him how he wants to be treated. All because one guy who didn't care what anyone thought decided that they should make clothes together.

The one thing I was a bit disappointed about was that we didn't get to see if Ryo's parents ended up accepting him as a boy or not. I also would have appreciated learning more about the other characters or having the manga be longer in general. But overall I really enjoyed it!!!

I really enjoyed how this volume went into depth on what being a brand is all about. This volume had a lot of thought provoking moments. I felt very inspired, reading them.

I also enjoyed the addition of the original one shot for boys run the riot. It was quite brutal, but it did well, delivering it’s message: Staying true to yourself, even in the face of adversity.

The content warnings are for the oneshot, at the very end of the volume.

Très bonne conclusion à la série. Les voir heureux ça fait plaisir. L’histoire bonus est dure par contre

“Mom, Dad…I’m sorry. I’ve been thinking and worrying a lot about how to be “me“, and how to relate to others. I still do. I’ve done a lot of different things and met a lot of people, taking it one step at a time. So please…just watch over me. I hope you’ll try to live together…with the boy I am now.”

.

Ahh, I’m very sad to see this series come to an end. What a privilege it was to see Ryo come into his own, and his friends do the same. I’m so incredibly proud of him. Stories centering trans experiences are important. Read them.

My only complaint for this volume is, well, that it’s finished. While the ending wrapped up in a way that was sweet and genuine, it doesn’t quite feel complete, because the end of this series is technically the beginning of their journey, if that makes sense. But for what we got, I still think it was lovely. I understand that this was meant to be a glimpse, and while a bummer, everything about this series was absolutely worth the read and I’m happy to own all the volumes.

What a delight, honestly.

Also, the short story at the end was brutal and stunning. I enjoyed it but watch out.

CW: misgendering, homophobic language and behavior, character outing, nudity, gender based violence
