I enjoyed this enough that’d I’d like to see where it leads despite being thoroughly confused for the first half of the book. It throws you into the action in medias res , and then never pumps the brakes on the plot. 

Read this if you like c-dramas with wuxia and xianxia elements, strong female characters who don’t need character development to have confidence in themselves, and lots of action. 

I would have loved the MCs to be a bit older and have this not be a YA novel.  I feel like if it got a little bit more gritty it would have been a bit better because of how much focus was on war, strategy, and political backstabbing. There was one or two misplaced jokey moments that felt out of place unless you remember that the main girl is 18
