Simple, short and heart-touching story. I never thought this could be a good children's book. Hitting reality of war while inserting sentiment of humanity regardless of differences between races and religion. Kudos to Elizabeth Laird.

This tiny book packs quite a punch. A great resource for anyone wanting to learn about life in Beirut during part of the war. in 99 pages, Laird gives a human face to the suffering and hope refugees around the world face everyday.

im just as clueless as ayesha about the details of this particular war and wish to educate myself more

regardless this was wonderfully written and easily navigable for children, a great rec for someone around 8-12
