Happy endings in queer stories are so rare and I’m so glad this book defied that mold. This is a quentessential and important example of hopeful endings in queer historical fiction. It just shows you can get all the angst, longing and drama into a story without killing off characters or ending it in a tragic way. More of this is needed in queer literature! Viva la queer joy!

This kinda had "Call Me by Your Name" vibes, but it was way better. The uncomfortable age difference was still there, but the way the story showed longing and obsession was so much more meaningful. The writing style was quite beautiful too, without being pretentious (like Call Me by Your Name). I'm not the biggest fan of the ending, even though I get why it was written that way (happy ending for the gays for once). I just think that relationship was too unhealthy to continue, but well at least Therese grew up and realized that she has a life apart from Carol and shouldn't make her the center of her world, so maybe there is hope for them.

It took me a while to finish this book because uni and life kept me insanely busy. I’m glad to say that the last few days have been lovely because of this book. We love some queer fiction and especially one that has a hopeful ending.

The only thing I didn’t enjoy as much was that this book tells a lot instead of showing. But apart from that, I loved it.
