"Or maybe, and I like to hope it was this one, because the truth is more intricate and less attainable than I used to understand, a bright illusive place reached by twisiting back roads as often by straight avenues, and this was the closest I could come."
I love Tana French's characters; they are so unbelievably flawed. I would find myself trying to talk them out of their bad decisions. Never worked.

After not loving the first book of the Dublin Murder Squad series, I didn’t imagine The Likeness would impact me so much. It’s incredibly well written, it makes you keep reading and looking for moments to continue with the roller coaster this story is.
I’m excited to read Faithful Place.

This book kind of dragged. Way too much monologuing. It took toooooo long for Maddox to agree to the assignment, which she is obviously going to do because that's the whole story, and it got pretty repetitive in the beginning. I loved her interactions with the housemates once she finally got there. Unfortunately the ending left much to be desired for me. There were two major loose ends, or at least, there were two pretty major things that I expected to be resolved but they weren't even addressed. Somehow a book that I felt was too long left me wanting more, but not in a good way.
I like the characters and the writing generally enough to keep going with the series but this was disappointing, especially considering how much I liked In The Woods.

In the far-fetched category, this book takes top billing. I really wanted to like it, I promise. But, the entire story line is so implausible...I had narrowed down the killer to 2 people very quickly and my guess was proven correct (although, they never really have a "true confession"). The writing is good, but this book could have been so much better if any of the story line had any hint of being believable. In short, the entire story fell a bit flat for me and I am not sure I will continue on with this series.

The premise of this story is amazing (get ready to suspend your disbelief). A few years ago, Detective Cassie Maddox went undercover as Lexie Madison, a made-up identity. Then Lexie turned up dead in a small town near Dublin, and she looked just like Cassie. Dun dun DUN! Cassie went back undercover as Lexie to figure out who murdered her. Lexie lived with a tight-knit group of friends in one house, so Cassie had to be convincing. The housemates were my favorite part of the book. You could really feel how close everyone was, and French did an amazing job of delving into everyone's psyche. Great writing!
