Классный камерный детектив с твистом и упором в психологизм: затягивающий, размеренный и уютный (если вы понимаете, как детективы бывают уютными) — идеальное осеннее чтение.
Завязка такая (это небольшой спойлер, так что если хотите совсем не портить себе сюрпризов — пропустите абазац дальше. Но в целом это мы узнаем на первых страницах, так что...): труп девушки в заброшеном доме, нет ни оружия, ни улик, ни подозреваемых. Есть только одна странность: ее имя совпадает с имененем, под которым ГГ — девушка-детектив — работала под прикрытием много лет назад. И еще: они похожи как две капли воды. Идеальный вариант для ГГ занять место девушки и попытаться найти, кто же и почему убил ее. Большая часть текста — описание жизни ГГ под прикрытием среди странной компании студентов местного гуманитарного вуза (очевидный привет Тайной истории) и как она пыталась не спалиться и при этом разобраться в этом странном деле.
Как и в прошлой книге, тут мало экшена, зато много детективной работы и развития персонажей. Это — самая сильная сторона книги, в каждого из небольшого количества героев веришь и переживаешь за них, а постоянная опасность раскрытия операции добавляет интенсивности всему происходящему. Тут нет большого твиста, но концовка сделана замечательно, сильно и эмоционально.
В общем, мне понравилось сильно больше, чем первая книга (в первую очередь большей логичностью и более приятной ГГ). Буду продолжать читать серию!

This was French's follow up to In the Woods. It centers around Cassie Maddox, an investigator who is now working in the Domestic Violence unit in a police station in Ireland. One morning, she gets an hysterical call from her boyfriend who is asking her to come to a Murder crime scene. At the scene, she finds the body of a young woman who looks disturbingly like her and her ID says that she's Lexie Maddison - a cover that belonged to Cassie when she worked undercover. Cassie is asked to step into "Lexie's" life as an undercover agent to gain information about Lexie's life and who could possibly be the killer.returnreturnLexie is living with 4 other college students, all postgrads in English, in a large, crumbling house. Her housemates are all quite interesting and it was fascinating to watch their stories unfold. This was another great summer read!

Low price, bought this as the first book in the series and this one are filmed as a limited event series for TV according to this article . Already own the first book.
Like the first book not very suspenseful. Interesting idea, but the hype about Tana French fails to convince me. Took me too long to read, and while I own #05 and #06 (due to their low price or a promo), I am reluctant to read more.
Recommended for fans of Ireland. No page-turner. 3.5 stars rounded down to 3, as this is no debut nor a first in a series, rather more of the same and while interesting not really a crime but more a slow burning mystery.
If the other books also get filmed - the limited TV-Series with 8 episodes is based on the first two books in the Dublin Murder Squad series -, I might change my mind and buy and read more, but for now I shelf that under "ok, but not my cup-a-tea".

After reading some other Tana French books and loving them (including the first in this series), I was excited to give this one a go.
It took me longer to fall into than the others by her I've read, and I ended up picking it up and putting it down quite a few times. I think I mostly just missed the main character from In the Woods. But when I finally hit the 60% (ish) point, things started really moving, and it stuck the landing well.
Not sure when I'll read #3, but I probably will!
