Even better than the first Murder Squad book.
This is the second Tana French book that I have read. Like the first, it was tough going at first. Excruciatingly slow, excessive over-flowery writing, a forced fancy writing style all made it hard to push on, which I did. And also like the first book, somewhere along the line, i got sucked in. I would highly recommend this book - you just have to get past the first few chapters and overlook the writing style.

I enjoyed this--a little slower than I had anticipated, but I did think the characters were very interesting and I lover her descriptions.
I'm not going to get into a big rehashing of the plot, I'm just going to jot down my feelings on this one. I picked this up without having read "Into the Woods". That said, this book still stands strong by itself.
The characters are fascinating, the plot (once you suspend your disbelief) is interesting, and the setting is positively sublime. Despite the unrealistic quality to the story, I found myself yearning for a Whitethorn house of my own. For me this was ultimately a story about what feels like a magical home filled with 5 good friends who try (unsuccessfully) to make a world of their own.

this book was a great follow-up to french’s first. I truly became attached to these four new characters’ lives that Cassie was forced into and the ending took me for a loop. Will definitely keep reading her books
I will think about this story and about what it had to say regarding home, belonging, safety, and commitment for quite a while.

The Secret Place is still my favorite Tana French novel, but The Likeness was a very close second.
