hm. i wanted to love this book, but didn't quite get there. there were some passages that gave me pause and will likely sit with me for a while, but there were also some that took me out of the story. the ending seems a bit rash.

I appreciate what Ferrante was doing by making Olga change so dramatically as she lost her ‘sense of self’ but it was laid on too thick for me (the ‘vulgar’ thoughts especially) and I almost DNF. However, am very glad I finished as it made more sense after the lowest point for Olga. But the poor dog! And I increased my score from 3.5 to 4 because I have not stopped thinking about this book.

Ik denk dat de vertaling het verhaal voor mij een beetje verpestte. Zoveel irritante herhalingen en mega lange zinnen. Zinnen waar wel 7 komma’s in werden geslingerd. Ook gebeurde er zo tering veel in die mega zinnen. Mijn dyslexie en adhd trokken het niet.
Soms waren bepaalde scenes ook wel mooi omschreven en het verhaallijn/concept was mooi.
