This is the 5th book in the Department Q series, set in a Copenhagen cold-case police department. The following brief thoughts assume you're familiar with the previous books in the series.
In this outing, the case revolves around Marco, a young boy who tries to escape from a child-exploiting mafia-like group. When he runs away, he discovers a body that was hastily buried in the woods. Meanwhile, Dept. Q is looking into a missing person case. We assume early on that Marco's dead body and the missing person are one and the same.
As with the previous books in the series, the crimes are multilayered and complicated. I was rooting for Marco and hoping that he would find a way out of his troubles.
We also learn more about the personal lives of the Dept. Q detectives and staff. I was especially happy to gain more insight into Assad's background and to hear about Hardy's continuing improvement.
The audiobook was performed by Grahame Malcolm, who is one of my go-to narrators. He is expressive, captures the varying moods of the book, keeps the action moving, and highlights the characters' personalities. I can't speak to his pronunciations of Danish words, but I thoroughly enjoyed his performance.
Thanks to PHR Audio for the review copy.

4.5 Stars
I swear, 1/2 star went to just finding out some more background info on Assad. Hell, maybe I should give that a full star! LOL
Anyway, 15 year old gypsy thief, Marco, decides that today is the last day of being in the "family (gang)." Except on his route of escape, s**t hits the fan and he finds a body. He really has no intention of making it an issue, until the family decides he needs to be dealt with. From that point on, we are on a roller coaster of backstabbing, murder, more backstabbing, Carl's tumultuous personal life, Rose's weird life (even more than usual), more murder and backstabbing, and Assad. It doesn't get any better....well, it can, but this is good enough for me.
