More suspense from Adler-Olsen with interesting characters - horrible people and wonderful people. We continue discovering pieces of the Assad and Rose puzzles.
I haven't quite been able to decide if this one or the first one is my favorite of the series so far! This one stood out from the rest and concentrated on Marco who to me was a very interesting character. The author really had me rooting for him.
Even though it was a little different than the earlier books, it was still a Department Q story. Complete with Carl's temper and Assad's camel-metaphors.
I really couldn't put this book down!

The fifth Department Q series book, The Marco Effect follows a teenage runaway from a horribly abusive situation as he dodges this captors as well as the police. Marco, the teenager, is very likeable, but the head of Department Q who is investigating Marco's tormentors is a crabby complainer and not at all enjoyable.
Adler-Olsen's 5th entry in the Department Q series proves to be just as good as all the rest. For anyone who has not yet tried this series...get to your local library fast and pick up the first one. I'll bet you'll be glad you did!
I really wanted to like this book more than I did, but I can't in good conscience rate it higher than a 2, maybe a 2.5. Between racist terminology, a hard to follow plot at times, and occasionally unbelievable dialogue, it felt like a low point in this generally good series.
Good as always. The mix of humour and suspence is still there.
Another run by the hapless group of department Q. Several parallel investigations going on and the underlying story of the principal characters move along as well. We learn a little more about Asad and Merk has love troubles. Altogether a good read.
