This is a thoughtful, well-written book about clashes between Neanderthals and humans. All except the last chapter are written from the perspective of the former. Their "primitive" thought translates to what comes across as unimaginative writing, although it is quite the opposite. Good book, just not my taste.

Interesting premise, but the way it's told is frustrating. It's about a Neanderthal tribe and their encounter with Homo Sapiens. Okay, sounds great. But it's told from the viewpoint of one of the Neanderthals - their village idiot, no less - and the attempt to describe the world as he would see it makes it unclear what's happening much of the time.

Hard to read due to the language of, well, no language. But it was still an interesting puzzle to figure out what was being described. And it’s funny how quickly the “tribe” grew on me and how much I cared for them, and how much I thought what the humans did to them just sucked.
And, even worse, people have not changed.

yeah i’m still confused
