This is an awesome crime fiction, I read this last year and was just the perfect time of year to pick it up again.
The writing is smooth and keeps you enthralled in the story. The characters are well written and you get just enough to be informed but not info dumped.
The premises of this book is a hide away place for people trying to escape from various a things such as, battered women getting away from their exes, white collar criminals that want to escape their crime, and so on so forth. A town so far off the grid you have no cell service or internet available. These people pay to get off the grid and keep their secrets hidden. It's as safe as can be that is until bodies start disappearing and as Detective Casey starts getting closer to figuring things out or so she thinks, shit starts hitting the fan.

Highly recommend

I love the world building, the characters and the story. I have nothing bad to say about this at all. :)

Man, this book hooked me in the first chapter.

I've read Kelley Armstrong's historical fantasy series and was really impressed. City of the Lost takes it up another notch. The book reminds me a lot of City Under One Roof by Iris Yamashita. It has similar themes of isolation, survival, and a town that's got its own rules of law. Rockton's different, though. People escape to it, and paying to go off the grid is part of a business practice.

The logistics are well thought out, but the characters are fantastic, too. Casey Duncan seems to be trying to do what's right and be good at her job while dealing with gnarly trauma.

If the rest of the series keeps improving, I'll recommend it to everyone I know ad nauseum. The mystery is great, the setting is outstanding, and everything fits together so smoothly.

It was a lot of atmosphere/town building. The last 30% was the best. I would say it was more of a mystery than a thriller.

I think I will continue with the series, At least one more book in hopes it improves or I like it more. I wasn’t feeling any chemistry between any of the characters.
