This book is devastatingly heartbreaking, and yet somehow, full of hope. I did forget how violent it gets there at the end, even more so than the movie. The way the story is constructed, with the rebels mirroring the Capitol, was brilliantly crafted, in my opinion. It's not a lot of people's favorite, but I'm always amazed at how Collins wraps up this trilogy.

Knowing Snow's background also paints this book in a different light, and I can't wait to see how that gets adapted into the movie.

Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has survived the Hunger Games twice. But now that she's made it out of the bloody arena alive, she's still not safe. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge. Who do they think should pay for the unrest? Katniss. And what's worse, President Snow has made it clear that no one else is safe either. Not Katniss's family, not her friends, not the people of District 12.

Every now and then I decide to pick up a YA novel for a quick, palette cleanser and when the mood stuck this time I decided to close out The Hunger Games series with Mockingjay. I didn't quite know what to expect heading into the final book of the trilogy and since I am reading these years after all of the hype, I hadn't really seen any reviews.

My main takeaway after finishing was a feeling of unsatisfaction. Throughout books one and two there is a forward progression of characters development, particularly when it comes to Katniss. However, in book three there was a sense of stagnation, which seemed odd and just disappointing. There isn't a whole lot of hope, rather this is filled with doom and gloom. I understand the reason behind all of this, but at the end of the day I'd have been okay with just one book.

Suzanne Collins has certainly created something worth reading with this trilogy. However, Mockingjay is hands down my least favourite. It felt drawn out, at times with not much going on, yet somehow the ending was rushed. It just didn't make sense to me.

I think I can confidently say that Dystopian is just isn't for me. I wanted to finish reading this series because I wanted to know what happened.

I had a major revelation while reading this book. I no longer enjoy reading morally grey MCs. I've changed a lot since a few years ago. Not as much as I did before. I'm a little disappointed because I genuinely do think that morally grey characters are important and bring critical complexity that non-morally grey characters just lack. However, I've found that for present me, reading from the POVs of morally grey characters just exhaust and bore me. I really hope I'm mistaken but change happens.

I think the pacing also demotivated me. The ending was not bad at all though.

There's no much to add from the previous books, to be honest.

It lost me at some point, when the Holo was introduced. But I reconnected with it after it, I even shed tears alongside Katniss. Felt her losses.

Would have loved to live a little more in their new world, but that wouldn't feel much like an ending, would it.

Anyways, I absolutely loved this series. I love Peeta, and I love Katniss, and I want them to live as happy as they can be.
