Sebastian and Evie are two of my favorites. This book is about their daughter Phoebe who sadly doesn't seem to have inherited their 'better' qualities, being more of a milksop. Now a widow with two small boys, she meets West Ravenel at her brother's wedding. West was a rake but now runs his brother's estates. Honestly, they're both a little disappointing in the beginning.
However, they seem to get it together about halfway through the book and finally acknowledge their sexy attraction to each other. There was some Sebastian and others of the Challons and Ravenels to add to the story, but there's too much dithering between the hero and heroine.
I'd give it a 3 1/2 stars.

I have really enjoyed Lisa Kleypas' historical Wallflowers series and the first three of the Ravenels series. Sadly I just couldn't get into the fourth book (I guess I like my historicals to feature Dukes and not detectives as this has been a common issue for me with historicals with more ordinary heroes). Anyway, that's beside the point.
Phoebe, the widowed Lady Clare and her two young sons travel to the Ravenels' family seat to celebrate the wedding of Phoebe's brother Gabriel to Lady Pandora Ravenel. Phoebe is dreading meeting West Ravenel as he bullied her late husband mercilessly when they were at school. However, when they first meet the sparks are palpable.
West led a thoroughly disreputable life of debauchery and self-indulgence until his older brother Devon inherited the Ravenel estate and title. Now a reformed character he runs the estate for his brother but still feels deep shame for the marriages he ruined and the appalling way he behaved when he was younger.
This novel gave me all the feels. West and Phoebe have some fabulous sparkling repartee, West is amazing with Phoebe's sons, he's a hard worker, he listens to the tenant farmers, he's interested in new ideas, and he's drop-dead gorgeous to boot!
Loved the romance, loved the plot, maybe could have done with a smidge less smexy times (I always find it a little out of place in a historical novel although realistically I know that things weren't that much different) but overall this is what I love from a historical romance.

Aku suka banget sisi kocak dan self determination West untuk menjadi pria yang lebih baik sejak buku satu. Aku juga suka kesetiaan dan stylenya yang selalu easygoing. Karena itu aku lumayan kaget melihat sisi rapuh dan masa kecil yang traumatik, saat kepribadiannya mulai digali lebih dalam. Walaupun aku rasanya baru kenal Phoebe disini, karakternya lumayan berkesan. Aku suka bagaimana LK menggambarkan sifat keibuan dan interaksinya dengan anak-anaknya yang sangat natural.
Sebenernya West dan Phoebe sangat berpotensi. Sayangnya aku lebih suka hero yang pede jaya dan gigih meraih sesuatu daripada yang minderan. Mengutip kata Sebastian ex St Vincent

Aku jadi merasa mixed feeling saat baca buku ini. Disatu sisi aku suka relasi West dengan keluarga Phoebe tapi rasanya West mendapatkan semua dengan gampang aja setelah dia bisa memupus rasa gak percaya diri dan kekuatirannya. Kalau di buku satu DK bersaing ketat memperebutkan spotlight dengan RH, disini sisi membangun chemistry dan bonding antara MC harus bersaing dengan penjelasan tentang pupuk dari poop kelelawar dan tehnik pertanian lainnya.
Akibatnya pergolakan konflik terasa kurang nendang dan endingnya terlalu instan kayak kurang space halaman.

This series has had some imperfect entries (unfortunately the first is one of them) but dang the last three really knock it out of the park. Women with agency and character and interest. Women who aren’t on some lofty pedestal but who are real and flawed. And unlike the caveman love interest of the first book, they find men who are respectful and interesting themselves. Just. So good.
