The best part of this book was the story of Mindy and Will, which read as a cheesy romance novel that I would totally be into. I didn’t really like the imaginary email exchange at first, but found myself into by the end. This was way better than her first book, but felt like a random collection of stories from her like that having much cohesiveness, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. She should write cheesy romance novels, which I guess is what she does for TV.

Better than her first one but not my favorite. She struggles with body image and weight and it's sort of stressful to hear her talk about diets she will never do again and confidence for young women when she's clearly still so disordered in her thinking.

this book's simply an enjoyable, lighthearted, quick read, exactly as it should be. why not me? makes me smile and giggle bc mindy can always sneak in a few jokes on almost every pg; she's just funny. it might not have too much substance but it's entertaining enough. i particularly like the harvard law speech and her lil jabs @ white men thru the book. also, that obama staffer story got me on the edge of my seat like i was reading a romcom short story; a will-they-wont-they that beats many romcom books for sure.

I am happy to have read this book by Mindy Kaling. It was nice to have as a book that I could read throughout the month in a lazy way as each chapter was it’s own topic. I think it’s a great book for Mindy Kaling fans and/or those for looking for something lighter.

A delightful read that didn't make me stop laughing while making me think about our society and our view of ourselves. I found it short but appreciated that it was meant to be direct, enlightening, simple to digest and fun, perfect for a quick read.

I really admire Mindy Kaling and enjoyed her first book, but this follow up was a disappointment. It did have some laugh out loud moments, but not as many. From early on, it felt disconnected.

I appreciate her good humored confessions about the layers of shellac that go into looking Hollywood-perfect -- for everyone! But it's clear that at this time she was still struggling with her own body image confidence. On one page she critiques the system that makes people marvel seeing on TV a body the size of the average American woman, while on another she refers to people as "porkers" - though she admits she is "trying." I am curious if her perspective has evolved since this publication.

The book includes a speech she gave at Harvard with absolutely no explanation for its inclusion.  I wish she'd included a short reflection/introspection for readers who were not part of the initial audience to consider: what is that piece I have that no one else can take? What is the distinction which supports, inspires, and motivates me? This would have connected the work to the rest of the book. As is, it struck me as filler to make a page count quota.
