Not my usual genre and needed some 100 pages to really get into it. The short story format where you follow a different character every 30-40 pages put me off at first, but after a while the stories start to fit together and it becomes a riveting, beautiful tale. Not one of the characters is unlikeable, but all of them are flawed in a way. An emotional read about life, happiness and human connection.

I do like a good Maeve Binchy book. She is one of my favourite authors now.

I'm hoping that it goes through, but I'm giving this book a 5.75 (since that's the highest the app might allow). EDIT: the app does not allow that, so a 5.0 it is! LMAO

Maeve Binchy wrote this book. This wasn't my first intro to her. I'd read "Circle of Friends" for English in high school and that was a great book! But "Evening Class"... WHEW! Perfection. The characters, the development, the plots... I loved everyone (mostly) and that's hard to do with so many stories and the way she weaves them... idyllic for any storyteller.

I've read this book about 5x and each time, I'm getting something different from it or connecting with a new character and wishing we could get more from them.

If I were down to my last dollar, I would definitely, totally, absolutely buy this book!

I love fiction with multiple character's story lines. This was a fun, feel-good read...perfect for late night dates with my Maeve!

OK story about an Irish lady living in a small Italian town and is the mistress to the man across the street. She returns to Ireland and teaches Italian having immeasurable impact on many lives. Strongly evokes a sense of place.

Whether it's hot and you need a book while lying on the beach or raining and you need a one to curl up with at home, either way this book is a perfect choice.

Take a bunch of people all over Dublin with different characters, background, social standing, dreams and fears and throw them together in an unlikely place like a suburbian schoolroom where they meet to learn.. ITALIAN of all things.

The result is CHANGE for the better for all of them though it may come with twists and turns told in the trademark Binchy-style with warmth, gentle humour and understanding.

My Secret Santa over at Library Thing bought me this book for Christmas. I have no earthly idea why they would think I would like such a thing if they looked over my library!! Anyway, I used to read Maeve Binchy back in my 20's, so it made me feel younger! And of course a nice brainless read for Christmas vacation. Not terrible, but I don't think you'll see me reading another one!
