I needed something short and cute to listen to at work and stumbled across this. I like that it didn’t take unnecessarily long for the MCs to get together since this is a shorter story, and a bonus for me on how informational it turned out to be. It started super strong and I was enjoying it up until the peek drama happened toward the end.
(SPOILER ALERT - a little)
The situation didn’t feel serious enough for Jay to want to break up and definitely not enough for him to need Frankie’s THREE best friends to talk him, a grown man, into not letting other people define him. Not after this whole story where they barely fought. They were the cutest, most adorable couple the entire time, he never did anything terrible and was all in once they decided to go for a relationship. If he had to leave the event or step away for a while and come back to her with a clear head ready to talk about it, that would’ve served the story better. Everyone has insecurities that mess with them from time to time. But considering what the issue was about here… A break up? It wasn’t that dire.
The story wouldn’t have suffered if he took a little walk and threw his tantrum on the sidewalk instead of getting ready to trash the whole relationship. Not every story needs an explosive climax and this was one of them. It was still a nice, chill thing, but I couldn’t get behind the melodrama.

I really liked the discussion of kink in this book. Both MCs were candid and lacked shame around the topic and I think that’s very important given how taboo kink is. I thought the third act breakup was stupid, but I still enjoyed reading about their relationship progression.

*sigh* well, this was disappointing.
i really wanted to love this book, but let's be honest: this was not it. yes, i was looking for a fun romcom to read, and it definitely delivered on that department, and i really enjoyed the talk on accessibility, but unfortunately that was about it.
the dialogues were cringe (especially during the smut), Frankie and Jay's relationship progresses way too quickly, and overall the story just doesn't feel well developped.
the whole plot is not only super predictable, but also poorly built.
do yourself a favor: don't read this book.
