It's always great to hear an audiobook read by the author, but Elizabeth Acevedo's books really shine in that format and I highly recommend it. Her and Melania-Luisa Marte were both such stunning narrators for this book and brought both main characters to life. So many of the reflections on grief resonated with me (and punched me in the gut). An amazing, amazing book.

this is so wholly young adult its great! 15 year old me would've loved it. it's a true story of sisterhood which i enjoyed. the pacing felt a little bit off and i don't know if that was exaggerated by the prose or not but the first half felt completely different from the second. 

grief was dealt in a really great way and it was super interesting to see two girls see each other as the manifestation of their hatred but also the only one who knew exactly what they were going through. the experiences of young women were handled with care and the SA scenes weren't used at plot drivers at all.
