I didn’t realize this audio book was an abridged to fit as a radio play! I really enjoyed it, but I could tell there were details missing. I look forward to reading the full book in the future, probably in print!

This book was a fun thought experiment filled with compelling, thought provoking, and honest reflections on the subconscious structure of gender normative society. While not overtly focused on those themes in particular, The Left Hand of Darkness has a place for anyone interested in imagining a world not so defined by the traditional binary. The tragic almost-love story between Genry and Therein was honestly surprisingly heart-wrenching.

This book has the main reason as to why I tend to not read many (if any) sci-fi books, the scientific stuff. It doesn't have a lot, that's true, but the stuff that there is makes my head spin. It has a very interesting plot and all, but there is no map that could guide me as to were the protagonist was going. Another thing that it lacked was an index with the words that were from the planet that I could go back to to verify the meaning. Some parts I did not understand because of that. The word would appear with a meaning, never to be mentioned again until a lot of pages later, and by that time I don't remember where the explanation of the word was, loosing its meaning to me.
There were parts still that I don't know why they were there, to be honest. I feel like I was either not in the good headspace to read and understand this book, or too dumb to understand it. Will I read it again? Probably not. So, so we will never know which one is the right answer.

Still such an incredibly thought-provoking story over 50 years after it was published.
"How does one hate a country, or love one?... I know towns, farms, hills and rivers and rocks, I know how the sun at sunset in autumn falls on the side of a certain plowland in the hills; but what is the sense of giving a boundary to all that, of giving it a name and ceasing to love where the name ceases to apply?" (pg 212) feels as topical now as if it was written yesterday.
