“She doesn't always like the new versions of herself, but they help her understand the edges of who she might be.”

So, I have mixed feelings about this book. I love the premise. Magical realism is always cool. The beginning of the book is really enjoyable and the audiobook narrator is pretty great! But Lauren’s actions get more bizarre, violent, and drastic as the story continues. That would be fine if we also got some real growth for her but we don’t.
She just decides to stop and stick with whatever husband comes next. That’s so ridiculous, I absolutely hated it.

I’m genuinely a bit upset about how the Bohai storyline ended as well.
It really feels like a huge waste of time to include him when, really, it goes no where. What was even the point? There could have been a really, really good story there with Lauren and Bohai. But nope - instead we get Lauren flying off the handle and Bohai settling down with a random lady because “oops baby!” 😒

10/10 concept, 10/10 execution

This is definitely one of the most original books I’ve read. Not only does the author come up with a completely unique and bizarre idea for a book - a seemingly infinite supply of husbands from the attic of the protagonist’s flat - but she takes this idea and runs with it, exploring all the logistics with the butterfly effect and alternate realities while also taking it in different, creative directions - I was never bored reading this book. There were a few occasions where I felt a little second-hand embarrassment for the main character, but overall I really rooted for her. This was amazing!

One of the best books I've read lately! Original story that captures attention; fun and light-hearted to what-the-heck-is-happening? in no time.

Interesting to think about the endless possibilities but the decision to grow with the circumstances and our actions within them is what makes a person unique. Without consequences there are no opportunities.

My mediocre response to this book has more to do with my expectations for it more than the actual book. I thought I was getting a light-hearted vacation read, when I was really getting a much more thoughtful book about the choices we make and the ripple effects those choices have.

I enjoyed this one! Reminded me of the Sylvia Plath poem about the fig tree. I enjoyed the thought experiment and the story generally, a bit slow in the middle but not bad.
