I have a hard time rating this, because it was so short and I read it quite fast and didn't have time to digest it. I like the writing, mostly because I generally like Wilde's stye, but I don't know so much about the play in itself.
Salome is a very very short play written by Oscar Wilde. It tells the Biblical story of Salome asking Herod for John the Baptist's Head. Some parts of the story are accurate to the Biblical depiction, but there are other added bits that Wilde puts in. I can't say I was bored reading this play, but I was definitely confused as to why it was written. It doesn't seem to have a deeper interpretation, all of the characters are kind of dumb, and the plot doesn't really go anywhere. I do appreciate that the play became an opera by Strauss, and the music is beautiful, but that may be the only good thing that came from this play.
The play was written originally in French which would probably be the best way to read it if you know French, but the English version uses a lot of thees and thous which may not be to everbody's taste.
