Mockingjay makes me want to scream and cry and rip my own heart out. The trauma and the war and the whole pointlessness of it all. I love Katniss so wholeheartedly. This book destroys me.

3.5 ⭐️: I was listening to this on audiobook on an 8 hour long bus ride suffering from sleep deprivation so i’ll have to reread it at some other point in time since i missed a lot of shit

Update: I found the time and motivation to read this book again(again on audiobook cause I love the narrator, she’s really good!) and this book is really great, and absolutely heartbreaking!
I don’t think I’ll ever get over Finnick and Prims deaths. 😭

This book perfectly encapsulates what it’s like to live through a war you never intended to start. It is incredibly dark and has just enough plot twists without going over the top. The main characters are put through the ringer in this book, even more so than the past two. We see how dangerous power can be, no matter who is holding it and the costs that come with overthrowing the government.
This book is definitely much slower than the others because we focus more on Katniss and what is happening around her than the plot itself. But I would not say it’s boring by any means. It is a devastating finale to The Hunger Games trilogy in which we learn that the things we want most may come with the ultimate sacrifice.

This was just the perfect way to end this story. It's much darker than the books before, and we can see how destroyed Katniss is after all the events of the past books and this book.
At first it was a little slow, but interesting. It wasn't the same as the ones before, but it was definitely interesting and not boring. I was really sad with the deaths of some of the characters I loved.
I loved the last phrase Katniss says to describe what Peeta can give her, the promise that life goes on, no matter how hard our losses are, and that it can be good again.
