"That what I need to survive is not Gale's fire, kindled with rage and hatred. I have plenty of fire myself. What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again. And only Peeta can give me that."

Another highly emotional book, which lead me to tears multiple times. Once I got roughly halfway, I wanted to stop reading. I knew from that point forward the book would become  depressing.

Suzanne Collins is a brilliant author. No character in the series is unflawed, making the experience feel even more real. I felt my heart being ripped out multiple times . For me, the fall in rating is due to sections of confusing writing within the book. For the majority of this book and the others in this series, I was able to picture what was going on. Unfortunately, I found some of the chapters in the Capitol confusing. I re-read a few to gain a better understanding, but was mostly unable to picture what Collins was trying to convey through the text.

Overall, I enjoyed reading this book, and look forward to recommending the series to lots of people!

The love triangle continued to be annoying but otherwise I liked the story. It reminded me a lot of ATLA in the way it addressed what lines should be crossed when handling enemies. The epilogue rubs me the wrong way because it sounds like Katnis was coerced/worn down into having children.

This book was definitely my least favorite out of the trilogy. I did enjoy it but the book had some pacing issues. Katniss really infuriated me in this book, even though she had been through a lot she is still just a teenager which i understand but her actions were uncalled for. In this book she acted in her emotions a lot and people got hurt and killed because she wasn’t thinking things through. This book was very tragic  and all of the deaths felt very unnecessary. Overall I think this book was pretty good i just think it had some flaws that could have been fixed.

Reading this series as an adult is so much more meaningful than when I was a kid. My only complaint about this book is the pacing; a lot of the book felt a bit slow while certain parts in the Capital were breezed over too quickly. But the author does an amazing job at capturing the aftereffects of trauma in these characters. This book is the culmination of a series with themes like: media’s impact on public opinion, authoritative governance, the lasting effects of trauma, being used as a pawn in the plans of others, etc. I’m less satisfied with the ending now as an adult because the internal scars of Katniss, Peeta, and others are more clear to me than when I first read this book and was just happy Katniss and Peeta end up together- but war doesn’t satisfy anyone. It feels so realistic and penetrating that while there were moments of tears while reading, I am reeling in the aftermath and will probably sob as I dwell on the trauma, what it meant for the characters, and what it means in real life. Everyone should read this series.
