4.5 stars. This has to be one of the best thrillers I have read in a while. Twisting and turning constantly. When you think you have got a grip on what might be going on and start to feel comfortable the rug is pulled firmly from underneath your feet! Claire is an intoxicating and fascinating main character whose life you can observe seemlessly and with much intrigue. Claire is an actress and I loved the way that certain parts of the book were written in a script format. It wasn’t gimmicky and actually made the reading very enjoyable. I’m not going to say too much more about this as I don’t want to give away any of the plot’s secrets. This was definitely one of those ‘oh just one more page’ (that then turns into 30/40/50 pages) thrillers. Recommended to anyone who likes C L Taylor, B A Paris, Paula Hawkins or Gillian Flynn. A couple of reservations:
1. It lags a little bit about 3/4 of the way through but it only takes a tiny bit of perseverance and it’s worth it!
2. The book gets quite dark in places and has many sexual references that can sometimes feel quite explicit- just as a warning for those readers who would prefer not to read books with that content.
Disclaimer: I was very kindly sent a free copy of this book by the publishers to review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own and I have been as honest as I would when reading any other book.

I actually hated this book. Around half way through I had developed such a vehement dislike of ALL of the characters I'm surprised I managed to finish it.
For me, Claire was everything I hate in a person. She is dramatic, full of her own self-importance and mind blowingly DUMB. I found myself almost screaming at her for repeatedly making the most insane decisions.
Then there was the writing. So much wasted space talking about the interior of the office, the exterior of a building, setting the scene for far too long. I understand that the author was using the constructs of a play for effect but it was just too much.
And the plot. Ahhhh, the plot. It did twist, yes, and toward the end there was one or two I didn't see coming. I puzzling toward the end thinking I had missed something when BAM. I was actually shocked.
But that didn't mean that it flowed or make any sense whatsoever. It felt to me like the use of a dream sequence in a sitcom. An easy get-out-of-jail free card.
If you can't tell, I hated this book and would never knowingly subject anyone to reading it. I'm sorry but it really was that bad.

Holy fuxxing shitballs!!
What just happened!?
I don’t even know where to begin with this review!
The characters are dark, unreliable and downright psychopathic! I thought I was getting sick of unreliable narrators, but this book changes everything lol! Legit, there might be one character in this book who is a nice, reliable person. The others are probably all going to hell…
Believe Me follows Claire, an aspiring orphan actor in New York. Originally from the UK Claire is looking for a fresh start, however, without a green card Claire is unable to find work… legal work anyway.
Claire’s life takes a dark turn as she fights to stay in America and earn her green card. That’s all I am going to say in regards to this dark, twisted, amazing plot! It’s a crazy ass rollercoaster ride of a book and I loved every minute of it.
A quick word of warning. Do not go into this book hoping to connect and fall in love with the characters, they are all psychopaths lol. This does make for an engrossing and intriguing read. Personally, I enjoyed these characters as they are perfectly horrid people and it was actually a lot of fun taking a peek into their minds. Made me feel nice and sane lol.
I would like to thank the publisher and the author for providing me with a copy of this book! This has in no way affected my views or opinions of the book or the content of my review.

3⭐️— Believe Me by JP Delaney
•
I received a free copy of this ebook from Netgalley and the tagged publisher in exchange for an honest review.
•
This is a solid three star book.
•
Claire is an actress who makes money on the side luring cheating husbands into hitting on her, which she films and gives to a law firm. But when the latest wife is murdered, Claire is asked to go under cover and try to entrap the husband.
•
Why this book received three stars and not four is because the amount of plot changes. It was good, but a few were a little too far fetched for me. However, it’s still a solid read for those who like fast paced suspense/thriller books.

I put off reading this for the longest time because the premise didn't sound super intriguing, but being a fan of Delaney's other books, I decided it was worth it. Good call, Ema, good call. This was twisty and confusing and fun, and even though I was trying to guess what the crazy twist would be since I knew it was coming, I was constantly second guessing myself. A bit overly dramatic, but lots of fun.
Last year, I had the pleasure of receiving an ARC for JP Delaney’s debut, The Girl Before. I loved that book and was incredibly excited when I learned that Delaney had a new book out called Believe Me. I was able to get an ARC of it through NetGalley and started reading it immediately.
In this story, we follow Claire, a British lady living in America without a green card. She is trying to get her name out there in the acting world, after messing up her chances of fame back in Britain. Without the green card, though, it is hard for her to find work. She does some under the table jobs, working as a decoy for divorce lawyers, trying to catch cheating husbands on tape for wives to use during their divorce proceedings. When one of the clients ends up dead, Claire is thrown in for the ride of her life. She works with the cops to help them discover if the now deceased lady’s husband, the person they assume to be the killer, is who they truly think he is. Claire begins a relationship with him and we follow along, trying to separate the real life from the scripted life.
Believe Me is a thriller of a different sort. Incredibly well written, with some fun parts written as if for a script, it immediately drew me in. I was captivated by Claire — who is this woman? What is her history? Something about her just grabbed me and held onto me throughout the entire ride. Completely character driven, this story is one that has lots of up, as well as some downs. As always, there are some twists and turns, my favorite being one that showed up just over halfway through the book. The ending twist left a slight sour taste in my mouth, though didn’t ruin the book for me competely.
Believe Me is set to be published in July; however, there is another version of this already out, called The Decoy, that was published in 2002 by Tony Strong (whose pen name is JP Delaney). From my understanding, the book wasn’t originally received as well as he believed it should have been, so he took the opportunity to re-work it and publish it again this year. I’m curious about the similarities between the two.

This was a very interesting book! I would recommend it! It did keep my interest and I didn’t want to put it down at times.
A bit underwhelming and didn't seem to care what happened to the characters. I'd definitely try another book by this author though.
