Getting into a bind and having to run for your life getting taken by pirates ending up where you want to be anyway there's lots of thrilling parts in this book. However I listen to this as an audio book and found that the person reading it was just a bit boring so made the book boring and turn. Otherwise I love the story itself.

I definitely consider this a cozy read. I enjoyed the story and look forward to reading the next in the series. This one is quite short so hard to establish a lot but there is some good groundwork that's promising for the next installment.
The only thing that slightly nagged me was how quick characters were to blindly follow Barnabas, but then again the times were different and he does come across very trustworthy.

Not as enjoyable as when I read it as a teen, but still good for its genre. I do recall that this is a nowhere near the best in the Sackett series though.
Some good swashbuckling action. I could imagine Errol Flynn in this.
This is the first (chronologically, not in order of publication) of Louis L'Amour's sixteen novels about various members of the Sackett family, and their lives from the 16th through the 20th centuries. It follows the adventures of the founder of that fictional family, Barnabas Sackett, as he makes his way from the British Isles to the new world. If you like L'Amour's other novels, you will like this one. If you don't, I'm sorry for you!
