I had no clue there was even a novella for this series until good ol’ amazon gave it to me as a suggestion. I usually love a novella as a short little addition to the story but Twelve left me a little disappointed.

Set a couple years after the series, the novella follows Cassie (& the crew) identifying new Naturals. With a flash from the past in their newest case, they must race against the clock during a sequence of (assumed) teen suicides when another girl (Mackenzie) threatens to end her life if they don’t take her seriously in stating that they weren’t suicides, but actually murders. Cassie relates strongly to Mackenzie due to their troubled childhoods and has an intuition that Mackenzie is telling the truth.. but can she believe a twelve year old girl?

I appreciated this novella as sort of an epilogue to our character’s original stories. I guess I was looking more for fluff, a little more than what we got.. honestly not sure how to articulate it. I do think Jennifer Lynn Barnes left it open with a possibility of a spinoff series about the older naturals? i’m just saying 🤷🏼‍♀️

“𝘈𝘴 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘢𝘴 𝘪 𝘬𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘥, 𝘪 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥𝘯’𝘵 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘺 𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘥𝘪𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘭𝘺.”

So sad to say goodbye to these characters. I really wish we saw more of Sloane x Celine, but the mention was cute. Didn’t see Agent Sterling but the mention of her pregnancy was so cute
