I liked this for what it was — a YA historical fiction published in 2007. I felt for the situation but didn’t feel too connected to any of the characters ultimately. I loved MPH growing up, but maybe her writing isn’t for me anymore.

I'm not generally a fan of straightforward historical fiction, whether the intended audience is children or adults. The book resonated with me not so much as an account of the strike and the fire, but as a stunning illustration of the aphorism "the more things change, the more they stay the same."
An amazing book about the shirtwaist factory fire and the rights of women in factories. This book deals with the suffrage movement and unions.

Trying to remember why I put this book down?
I just picked it up recently and I thought it was really good! I love the POVs of women in the 1900s, fighting for their rights. I loved the inside thoughts and knowing their struggles and their fights and I thought the ending was kinda sad. I thought it was pretty fast-paced and I love how we see all characters develop through the story, especially Jane. An inspiring story overall.
