The only thing i disliked was how well the cliff hanger was written
3.5 stars! Loved the concept and had a great time reading this, but felt that some characters were too caricature-like and the descriptions were excessive at times.
Arc Copy...very promising start to the series...loved the "origami-paper" magic system and the Japanese inspired steampunk setting too!
This was a blind date with a book bought for me from mum for an Easter present. I struggled to get into this book because of the strange names and terminology. The storyline got better as I continued but it’s not my typical genre of book. Left on a good cliffhanger that should lead into the next book in the series.

Rebel Skies dives into a world of the future, and of magic. Kurara is a Crafter, an ancient race that can control creatures made of paper. She has wants and needs, she breathes and eats, she feels pain and joy. In all the ways that matter she is human.
Kurara, together with Haru, will journey from a life of drudgery as a scullery maid to an airship full of bandits. These bandits have something she needs, and she can help them too.
This story initially felt very slow-paced. It needed to be that slow to expertly craft the world these characters live in. I was entranced by this story within the first chapter. The imagery and aesthetic were vividly communicated, allowing me to settle right in. I highly recommend this series to anyone who ever enjoyed the magic and sense of wonder that Harry Potter and Lord of The Rings brought upon their debuts.

Tout d'abord, je tiens à remercier ma sestra qui m'a offert ce livre. Il était dans ma wishlist car j'en avais entendu énormément de bien, et j'étais très curieuse.
Je me suis donc décidée à enfin lire ce livre.. A plonger dans cet univers.
Et quelle plongée !
Au début, j'étais un peu perplexe, car il m'a fallu un peu de temps pour comprendre où on était, bien cerné l'environnement etc. Au final, ça s'est fait au bout de quelques pages seulement. Quand c'est de la fantasy, ça peut parfois mettre + de temps, mais ce n'est pas du tout le cas ici.
Les personnages sont assez intriguants dès le départ. Je n'ai pas eu de coup de coeur particulier, et évidemment, il y en a que je n'ai pas apprécié, mais voilà, j'ai largement su apprécié ma lecture malgré ça !!
Il y a certains passages qui se sont déroulés un peu trop vite à mon goût; mais vu la suite de ces scènes-là, ce n'était pas dérangeant du tout.
L'univers est riche est clairement, nous n'avons qu'effleuré la surface avec ce premier tome. Et il me tarde grandement de lire le suivant !
Et clairement, je lirai tout ce que l'auteure écrira, parce que j'ai adoré sa plume !

First of all, I would like to thank my sestra who gifted me this book. It was on my wishlist because I had heard so many good things about it, and I was very curious.
So I decided to finally read this book. To dive into this universe.
And what a dive !
At the beginning, I was a little perplexed, because it took me a little time to understand where we were, well identified the environment etc. In the end, it was done after only a few pages. When it's fantasy, it can sometimes take longer, but that's not the case here at all.
The characters are quite intriguing from the start. I didn't have a particular favorite, and of course, there were some that I didn't appreciate, but oh well, I largely appreciated my reading despite that !!
There are some passages that happened a little too quickly for my taste; but given the rest of these scenes, it was not disturbing at all.
The universe is rich and, clearly, we have only scratched the surface with this first volume. And I can't wait to read the next one !
And clearly, I will read everything the author writes, because I loved her pen !
