The Classic Tales Podcast. Just a fantastic listen. The language with which this story was written was magical, engrossing and mesmerizing. Complete talented genius Hawthorne was/is.

This book was very beautiful to read, with gorgeous imagery and showed a fascinating depiction of the life of an artist. The plot was pretty repetitive, but it seemed to be intentional and the ending was very satisfying. I only wish I had been less rushed in reading this, as I feel that if I took more time to read it, I would have enjoyed it more.

This is one of my favorite stories by Hawthorne, mostly because I adore the notion of a mechanical butterfly. Roll your eyes as you will, but hey. There is, of course, the pain of watching an obsessed creator spiraling downward, perfecting his one goal while destroying all else that should truly matter. I suppose my focus on the butterfly is the curse of the story, yeah?
