Very emotional. Dark but touching. It was a book that fed a part of my soul that I didn't know was hungry. It was longing and yearning, hopeful and beautiful.

I usually don't review books that I rate highly. It's just like "yup that was good, and on to the next book!", but I really want to remember the emotions this book evoked in me.
Future self: Yeah, it's worth re-reading.

Stealing this from another reviewer beacuse YES, this is why it hit hard for me: "It was mostly a story about overcoming your demons with someone else."

When I say I am obsessed with the Camorra Chronicles, I want you to believe me. I love all of the books in this series but this one in particular just really gets me. Nino and Kiera have so much trauma and pain in their lives and watching them heal each other is so beautiful. I love this book!!

If you're going to mention 20 times that he takes her pulse with his thumb, you should maybe double- check because that's impossible. The thumb has its own pulse. I rolled my eyes every time.

Not much plot, just a very slow burn during which she somehow cures his neurodivergence. Nothing believable. Lots of repetition and filler and some very stilted dialog that nobody would actually say. There are some weird sections where none of the characters use contractions.

Arranged marriage trope.
When two broken souls meet.

The first 10% was a bit slow but the moment I finished it, I wished there was more of Nino and Kiara.
There are terms that I wish were used differently.

The one thing I don’t like about this book is how they are degrading women and shaming women… it’s a big ick.

I wasn’t expecting to like Nino and see him understand Kiara, respecting and communicating about their boundaries and such… is nouvelle.
Funnily, seeing Nino being all softy towards Kiara was kinda weird since he was known as a ruthless and heartless man ( doesn’t mean I don’t like it).

The way he always feels her pulse on her wrist to know what Kiara was feeling: nervous; scared; prettified; happy, et cetera.
-
"You are too beautiful to lurk in the
shadows."
-
The angst tho: whenever Nino tells kisra that he can stimulate  affection/ tenderness/love… something the pains her and doesn’t want to see it:

“Could you love someone who didn't have
emotions?
Someone who analyzed love as if it were a mathematical problem?
It wasn't a question that needed answering.
I knew the answer.
I loved Nino, even if he could never love me
back.”

But at the end they do have their HEA. Wished there was a epilogue;

"Before you, there was calm. There
was order and logic."
"And now?"
"Now…. Twisted. Nowthere's chaos"
;

"I do, with my fucking dead heart. With every fucking fiber of my being.”

"I love you. For real. No simulated affection or love ever again, because with you, I don't need to simulate. You dragged that dead part of me out of the past and revived it. I didn't die fifteen years ago, but I didn't live either...
until you."

TW: sexual assault; trauma; torture; death; child abuse; gun violence

Tropes/Themes: Mafia Romance, Arranged Marriage, Found Family
Amount of spice: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Explicitness: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

I always find it hard to choose between this and Sweet Temptation as my favourite Cora book but I think this has to be my all time favourite. This was done so well. Both Nino and Kiara were dealing with some really heavy stuff and even though it’s a mafia romance their love feels very gentle. Nino was unexpectedly sweet for a mafia MMC which I love. Nino is my favourite MMC in the series and honestly, probably one my fave book bfs in general. These two were even tempered and both very intelligent and I loved their sweet, slow burn. It was interesting seeing the dynamics in the Falcone family in comparison to the Vitiellos especially as they are all men bar Kiara and Leona. I also really enjoyed how exasperated Fabiano gets with the Falcones, it makes me laugh every time. This was the most slowburn of Cora's books that I've read but she really made up for it in the end.

I won’t lie, I’ll probably read this book another one thousand times and I’ll never get sick of it.
