i liked the romance just fine, i suppose, but the main character made me feel violently ill. i had secondhand embarrassment the entire time because she rarely makes the right decisions.
i know it's supposed to be like a rom-com but come on. the resolution of the romantic conflict is *literally* that scene from say anything... all i'm saying is that irene deserved way better.
2.5 stars because at least i was invested enough to read it all in one sitting.

I kind of felt like the characters weren’t as fleshed out as I would have liked them to be, but that could just be me. I think that if I would have read this when I was in high school, I would have lost my mind. And that’s what matters, right?

SHE DRIVES ME CRAZY is a sapphic young adult love story between Scottie, who recently got dumped by her former teammate, and Irene, the uber popular head cheerleader. After a car accident throws the two girls together, they make a deal to date in order to make Scottie’s ex-girlfriend jealous.

I love a good fake dating story. This one is also a hate-to-love story with a lot of snarky banter. I thought the romance aspect was fun and definitely filled with all the emotions of a high school romance. This one was a joy to read.

I did find it weird that the “villain” character seemed to be the only person in this small Georgia town that had a problem with homosexuality. It was even stranger, because she seemed to constantly be trying to use the main characters’ sexualities as bargaining chips against them, but it didn’t really hold any weight since this is magically the only southern town without homophobes. I’d love that to be reality, but it’s not and it felt a little disjointed because of that.

It was nice to see the book deal with some heavy topics in a well thought out way. I think it’s important for teens especially, to see that toxic relationships and emotional abuse are also present in same-sex relationships. And the space the author gave for this to be discussed and dealt with was nice to see.

This book was so amazing! I read it in one sitting and when I was about halfway through the book, I had to buy it for myself. It's so sweet, yet also tackles hard topics. It really balanced fluff and angst, not to mention the importance of growth. It was an awesome book and I will gush about this forever.

📚 SHE DRIVES ME CRAZY is a sapphic enemies to lovers fake dating romcom. Honestly, what I would have given to have books with premises like this available when I was younger!
📚 I enjoyed watching Scottie and Irene go from fake power couple to real power couple - remember in high school how who was dating who was SOOO important!?
📚 While the book is full of hijinks, it also covers some real, heavy stuff too. I do think it's important to show that emotional abuse can come in many forms, and that even queer couples are not exempt from toxic relationships.
📚 One thing I found a bit curious about this book was how literally no one in the whole town had a problem with anyone's queerness, but the villain still tried to weaponize it against Irene. It was hard to figure out exactly what the stakes were.
📚 Also just as an additional note, while there is quite a bit of racial diversity among the characters, it feels tacked on after the fact.
