The main character, Scottie, is just... Oof. If I had a friend like that, I'd stop being her friend real fast.
I wasn't expecting this to have the trope Fake Dating, too. I usually don't mind it, but the way they started the fake relationship rubbed me the wrong way.
Scottie just manipulated Irene so she pretended to date her, and then crossed clear boundaries just to make her ex jealous. Fuck no.

So yeah, I dropped it.

This was exactly what I wanted from a YA sapphic romance. I thought the enemies to lovers and fake dating tropes were well integrated into the story and I really liked the characters. Although there was a central romance, there were also several other compelling plot threads focusing on family and school and self-esteem. It's not going to be the most memorable of books but I had such a good time while reading.

At points, this felt like someone programmed an AI to write a cliche teen romance novel. The pacing was very fast and did not allow for substantial character development. Because of this, I didn’t feel invested in any of the characters. Scottie and Irene did not have chemistry and their relationship felt forced. There were also several spelling and grammar mistakes. Overall, not a terrible book, but a bit disappointing. I’d still recommend it for the LGBT representation; this book will help some kid.
